Native to Asia, Ixora Chinensis plants are attractive, small shrubs that grow in subtropical regions. Grown around the globe, Ixora plants feature bright, colorful clusters of flowers that look like puffballs.

Although these plants are easy to grow under the right conditions, growing Ixora plants can be a challenge even for experienced growers.

How to care Ixora Chinensis

To be honest, Ixora plants are fussy to grow. They are very picky with their growing conditions. Even a mild temperature shift or switching the plant's location can impact its growth.

Light: Ixora plants like bright light so put them in a location where they can get at least six hours of sunlight daily. This is a non-negotiable requirement if you want to see this plant producing heavy blooms.

Soil: For a healthy Ixora plant, make sure the potting mix is rich in organic matter. Additionally, the soil should be slightly acidic. Ixora likes acidic soils. You can add fertilizers like Vermicompost or Cow dung manure.

Watering: True to their native tropical region, Ixora plants like moist soil. Try to maintain and follow a watering schedule and water the plants according to the temperature you are living in. Avoid over-watering this plant.

Fertilizer: A well-balanced fertilizer like NPK or a DAP fertilizer would do the job. While these are the fast-release fertilizer, Bone meal, and Neem Khali are the slow-release fertilizer options. Proper nutrition will increase the chance of flowering on your plant.

Pruning: Prune the plant tips after it blooms. Without proper pruning, the plant will look untidy. Practice regular pruning to keep this plant in proper shape.

Propagation: To grow this plant, take cuttings in the Spring and you might as well need a rooting hormone. Keep looking for dark purple berries on this plant. Those are the seeds which you can further use to make more plants.
